Tattoo Aftercare

Proper aftercare is essential for your tattoo to heal correctly and look its best. Follow these instructions carefully!

First 24 Hours

Leave your bandage on for at least 2-4 hours, or as instructed by your artist. If you have a transparent adhesive bandage (Saniderm/Tegaderm), keep it on for 24 hours unless otherwise directed.

First wash: Remove bandage gently with warm water. Wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and fragrance-free, antibacterial liquid soap. Gently lather and rinse thoroughly. Pat dry with a clean paper towel—don’t rub.

Daily Care (2-3 Weeks)

  • Wash 2-3 times daily with fragrance-free soap and lukewarm water
  • Pat dry with clean paper towels or air dry
  • Moisturize with a thin layer of fragrance-free, unscented lotion 2-3 times daily when skin feels dry or tight
  • Keep it clean and breathable—no tight clothing over the fresh tattoo

DO NOT:

  • Scratch, pick, or peel your tattoo (it will itch—don’t give in!)
  • Submerge in water (no pools, hot tubs, baths, or ocean) for 2-3 weeks
  • Expose to direct sunlight or tanning beds during healing
  • Exercise heavily or sweat excessively for the first few days
  • Apply petroleum jelly, Neosporin, or scented products
  • Let anyone or any pets touch your healing tattoo

What to Expect

Week 1: Redness, warmth, and some plasma/ink leaking—totally normal
Week 2: Itching and peeling (like a sunburn)—let it flake off naturally
Week 3-4: Should be fully healed on the surface

Warning Signs

Seek medical attention if you experience:

  • Excessive swelling, redness, or warmth that worsens after day 3
  • Pus (yellow/green discharge)
  • Red streaks extending from the tattoo
  • Fever or chills

Long-Term Care

Once healed, always use SPF 30+ sunscreen on your tattoo and keep your skin moisturized to maintain vibrant colors and crisp lines for years to come.
